Impartial recomendations?

“if you don’t pay for the product, you are the product”. Many accounting firms are worse as they both charge you fees and also receive kickbacks/commissions from external services they recommend. Maslins don’t do this. In practice this means firstly you can rely on recommendations we make as being best for you/your business, not our bottom line. Secondly, typically we negotiate discounts for you instead of kickbacks for us, so you get cheaper deals for associated services.

Controlled by?

Accountancy is a service industry. Whilst technology helps, it’s employees that you speak to. As Maslins Ltd is employee owned, our staff all have a stake in the business. This means they really care about keeping you happy, so you’ll stick with us and potentially recommend us to others. This helps align our motivations with yours, as well as meaning our staff turnover is very low, so continuity of your key contacts is high.

Referral reward?

We’re all about the long term. We want loyal, happy clients who spread the word. Our competitors give one off gifts for referrals, so you need to keep referring more and more people to them to continue benefitting. Not with us. You can recommend someone in your first month, and if you both stay with us 10 years, you’ll benefit from the discount for 10 years. Recommend 10 clients who sign up and get your accounts/tax work free!

We haven’t itemised exactly which firm does what, as on paper most will offer broadly the same service. Some do charge extra for things like them acting as registered office address, personal tax returns, references etc. Where competitors have multiple offerings, we’ve picked the one that most closely aligns with ours.

Put bluntly, we’re actually a firm of accountants and tax advisers, run by accountants and tax advisers. The others listed above operate in the accounting world, but they’re not regulated by one of the main accounting/tax bodies.

Maslins are a breath of fresh air compared to my previous internet based 'contractor focused' accountancy. Extremely flexible, super quick when responding to emails and very knowledgeable. I only worked with Maslins (Tom in particular) for a short while, but they've really impressed me. Very quick to respond to queries, succinct, no nonsense and accurate advice, which is exactly what you'd want from an accountant. They are the nicest bunch of accountants (I mean that in a good way) you'll ever meet. Every one of them is friendly, professional and responsive. Emails are replied to almost by return, they're pro-active with any issues they spot and they'll bend over backwards to help you in any way they can. Don't even give it a second thought, just sign up with them, you won't regret it.

BEST ACCOUNTING FIRM I'VE EVER USED! I've been self employed for 20 years and a limited company for about 10. And I've had a few different accountants. My company is small (it's just me), and I find accounting processes difficult. These guys are supportive and provide prompt efficient customer service. They know what they are doing. They are familiar with all the latest online processes and don.t make you feel silly for not being an accountant. Great priced fees, pay monthly instead of one huge bill, and they include the annual FreeAgent fees, which are worth over £300. TOTALLY RECOMMENDED.

Maslins was the third contractor accountancy I signed up with after having a very poor experience with two of the bigger firms. I'd previously been let down by poor advice, poor communication and online software that didn't work properly. I initially found the Freeagent contractor accountancy software and loved the look of the product and the feedback it was getting. I then looked for an accountants that used the software and came up with a shortlist. I did a lot of background research into the companies on my shortlist and found a lot of contractor forum posts recommending Maslins with no negative comments. I signed up with Maslins and have found they have always gone above and beyond my expectations. They have always been on hand to give advice and have never let me down in the slightest. I've always been able to ring or email them and get the advice I need immediately. They've also been great at chasing me to get things done on time which isn't always easy when you're a busy contractor! I have no hesitation in recommending Maslins!
